Have you ever wondered about the benefits of Pomegranate for our bodies and skin? The fruit’s beautifully rich colour is enticing to look at, delicious to eat, whilst the oil from its seeds has fabulous benefits for your skin.

A little history about Pomegranate:It’s name is derived from the medieval Latin“pōmum grānātum, meaning “apple” and “seeded”. Pomegranate fruit is red-purple in colour, about the size of a lemon, with the husk consisting of two parts – the outer “pericarp ” and a spongy interior called the “mesocarp”where the fruit and seeds are contained. Pomegranates can have anywhere from 200 to 1400 seeds within this edible fruit, which is a berry producing its rich benefits from a single flower. The fruit grows like ornaments on a tree, is tolerable to drought type conditions, thriving in both dry and rainy environments, from the Mediterranean, to Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, India, Afghanistan and the warmer parts of North and South America.

Pomegranates historically represented fertility and wealth to various world cultures. It was a major food source but used conjunction with medicine, to treat intestinal problems, create a tonic for the lungs and heart or for toning and slowing down the aging process of the skin!To think how pomegranate was being utilised thousands of years ago is astounding!

The seeds of the pomegranate can be juiced or eaten raw, though the seed oil has wonderful benefits for our bodies internally as well as externally for our skin. Nutritionally, pomegranate seeds are low in calories, high in fibre for maintaining a healthy heart, rich in antioxidants and generous with micronutrients including Vitamin C, K, folate and potassium too.
Adding pomegranate to your diet can assist with:
• Lowering blood pressure levels,
• Reducing pain in joints,
• Enhancing the heart’s health,
• Fighting off bacterial infections,
• Improving sexual functionality, and
• Boosting memory capacity.

For these reasons alone, including pomegranate to meals will benefit the whole family. Check out some of the Middle Eastern dishes that include pomegranate seeds and juices to create amazing treats for your family. For other ideas, check out 22 different options here at Pomegranate Recipes.

Why is pomegranate seed oil an excellent addition for our skin?

Today, we want to take care our skin’s appearance, whilst protecting and nourishing it too.Our bodies absorb all kinds of invasive pathogens through our largest organ, so defending the skin’s tissues from environmental pollutants and harmful chemicals has to be an important factor, not a cosmetic one.With the simplest of routines, we can remove these damaging substances collected in our skin, promoting cell regeneration, revitalisation and rejuvenation to the overall condition and appearance.

It’s not like we should expect to look like a 19-year old without any life or laugh lines when aged 51!!What we do want is to look in the mirror and observe the person who is enjoying a fully functional body with a healthy head of hair!!There’s definitely nothing wrong with wanting that, particularly if it contributes and boosts your overall confidence as a person!

Having personally suffered many years with dry, irritated, swollen and bleeding skin, I discovered keeping routines simple to be the best gift of love for my healing body.Over-complicated and expensive techniques can cause us to eventually become uncommitted or bored with completing what should take minutes for daily self-love and care for our skin.

Using ingredients that come from plants and seeds, their individual properties work their magic to support, boost and treat the overall health of our skin. These ingredients should always be suitable for the age and time frame of individuals. Pomegranate seed oil is one of those essential oils that assists with tightening the skin, promoting healthy aging whilst maintaining a gorgeous glow to your skin. It also aids protecting your skin’s collagen, as it is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants.

Its properties are also bountiful in vitamin K, containing excessive protective compounds, consisting of punicic acid, flavonoids, anthocyanidins and tannins. These chemical compounds occur naturally in plants. They are able to shield and protect our skin from being damaged by UV light and sun rays, as they assist the neutralizing of free-radicals from the environment, before these create damage to our skin cell’s DNA defence mechanism.

NOTE:This still means you should take precautions, wear the suitable sunscreen and sunblock to protect your skin from sun damage.

When you inspect the thick exterior of the pomegranate, you’ll see how the grains within are rich in colour and vitality, yet protected from the outside environment as it grows in the warm weather.In summary, pomegranate:
• Encourages the regeneration of your skin cells;
• It repairs the skin;
• Effectively helps to reduce and slow down the aging process, preventing wrinkles in the epidermis;
• Beneficial antimicrobial properties;
• Works as an effective anti-inflammatory ingredient; and
• It’s extremely moisturising which nourishes and softens the condition of the skin.

” Pomegranate is contained in Mature Range
of Essentially Lili Skincare Products ” Lili

From the Essentially Lili range, pomegranate has been added into the products for Mature skin for this reason. This is because our exposure to the sun has happened naturally over the course of the years, whether we have had sunblock and a hat on, or not. The idea of including this oil in the Serum and Balms was to help restore the balance of the skin’s tone, just in case it’s had too much exposure.

ForOver 50s mature and potentially sun damaged skin consisting of the Diamond Era Balm ,Diamond Era Serum as well as the Sun Kissed Balm.

This is because pomegranate seed oil prevents the damaging effects of UVB sun exposure, whilst preserving and protecting the collagen found in our skin. NOTE:This still means you should take precautions, wear the suitable sunscreen and sunblock to protect your skin from sun damage.Refer to Blog for sunscreen tips.

Applying several drops of the blended serum before and after sun exposure can help revitalise your skin’s condition.The Diamond Era Serum contains a wonderful selection of ingredients for mature skin, which often becomes tired looking as the years approach. Having reached my next milestone, I have been added two drops of this blend to my nightly routine and my skin feels fabulous the next morning when I get up!

The other essential oils that are great for skin tightening which are found in quite a number of our products include: Frankincense, Lavender, Jojoba, Myrrh and Rosehip Oil. Be sure to look at the ladies’ range for the list of ingredients contained in each product and the testimonials about these.

I really believe that less is more, adjusting how much is needed as you go, depending on how your skin feels.The wonderful attribute with natural products especially during the summer time, is that you can place the balms in the fridge overnight to re-set or to cool it for when you apply it next time around.

EXTENDED OFFER

I’ve continued adding the Free Magic Serum or Frankincense Face Serum to orders over 100 CHF. Don’t forget to take advantage of this Offer. This offer is whilst stocks last, and cannot be used in conjunction with other vouchers or coupons.

Tamanu & Kukui Nut Oil

Tamanu & Kukui Nut Oils

Tamanu & Kukui Nut Oils

Tamanu Oil has a uniquely natural smell & strong colour.
It’s known for its ability to accelerate
the generation of new healthy skin.

Kukui Nut Oil has been used by the Hawaiians
for centuries to protect their skin from the
harsh sun, drying winds & salt waters.

Tamanu Oil (Calophyllum Indophyllum) is an oil that has been used in South East Asia and the Pacific islands for centuries. Powerful in smell and colour, Tamanu was known as their ‘oil of the gods’ as it was used to cure many skin problems. Tamanu oil has a certain lipid called calophyllolide which is not found in other oils.

Tamanu originates from Vanuatu in the South Pacific. It has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibiotic, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It is ideal for those that suffer with Acne, as well as dry, scaly skin conditions, assisting with scars, stretch marks, sunburn and abrasions. For those suffering with toenail fungus, age spots, rashes, dermatitis, Eczema, Psoriasis, you’ll be happy to know that Tamanu Oil is a treat!

It allows accelerated growth and the regeneration of healthy skin cells, which adds benefits to the Over 50s and scalp rejuvenation products. It makes a fabulous ingredient to help repair broken skin. For this reason, I have added this oil to the serums that need to help restore the skin. They include: (currently discontinued) Vitamin Rich Facial Oil, still available Diamond Era Serum and Go Molly.

Kukui Nut (Aleurites moluccans) comes from the Kukui Nut tree, which is often referred to as the candlenut tree. It grows in other parts of Polynesia, though is regarded as the State Tree of Hawaii. Kukui seeds had many purposes for the Hawaiians, though for centuries, it was mainly to protect their skin from harsh sun, drying winds and the salt waters. It is cold pressed in order to retain the highest levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hawaiians have been using Kukui Nut Oil which is a naturally light oil that has the ability to penetrate the skin quickly. It has also been selected for treating wounds and burns, and makes an excellent choice for massaging, as it offers glide without slipping

Kukui Nut Oil is rich in essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic). A multi-ingredient skin products, Kukui Nut Oil is rich in Vitamins C, D and E is often added to the oil to act as a preservative. For this reason, Kukui Nut Oil has been included in the Sun Kissed Balm to help re-balance discolouration due to being sun kissed by the sun, giving the skin back its essential fatty acids.

In the previous blogs, More Vegetable Oils , I shared about Baobab Oil (Adansonia digitata) which contains Omega 3, 6 & 9 Fatty Acids as well as Antioxidants, Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, Vitamin C, D, E & F, proteins & minerals. The high content of Vitamins A and F are vital for skin rejuvenation and anti-aging and is contained in most of these Essentially Lili products as well.

Together the combinations of Vegetable Oils with Essential Oils have such varied benefits for treating all sorts of conditions, ailments and discomforts. I would love to hear what you have and what you love about the products I made for you and Why of course!

Favourite Vegetable Oils

Sunflower is amongst the richest Carrier Oils,
loaded with benefits, which allow
for direct & safe application of
Essential Oils without causing irritations.

QR BLOGMAR17

The Vegetable Oils used for Product making are not the kind you would normally buy at the Supermarket. Those in the stores are exposed to direct Sunlight, shop lighting, and heating which can cause the oils to degrade. Extra Virgin Oil is normally stored in dark glass bottles, so taking this from the back of the row is a good idea!

As our bodies’ cell walls and membranes contain quite a lot of fats and oils, it makes sense for us to use nutritious oils in our foods and skincare products. These will help us maintain the fluidity of our cells.

Did you know that using oils as a cleanser actually helps your skin?The oil softens any sebum which
may be blocking the pores, allowing these to be removed. For this, I have added Sunflower Cleanser to the range of products.

There are plenty of Vegetable Oils to choose from, which vary in colour, natural fragrance, and price. Familiar oils include Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond, and Coconut. These are found in many skincare products that help repair and calm sensitive skin.

The following Vegetable Oils are some that I use in the Essentially Lili range because I love what they do for the skin:

Sunflower Oil (Helianthus annuus) has very little scent compared to another vegetable/carrier oils, and absorbs easily into the skin, leaving very little residue. Sunflower Oil has high concentrates of Vitamins A, B, D, and E, as well as minerals, lecithin, insulin. It is a great product for the skin, adding UV protection qualities together with the unsaturated essential fatty acids. Sunflower is amongst the ingredients found in Sun Kissed Serum to help with the effects of the sun for those that have been ‘kissed’.

Wheatgerm Oil (Triticum sativum) is obtained from the germ of the wheat. It is extremely high content in Vitamin E which is a natural antioxidant and preservative, together with essential fatty acids, Vitamins A, B & D. Wheatgerm helps promote circulation and increase blood flow, which is great for damaged or scarred skin. It helps form new cells to improve the appearance of the skin and to help repair sun damage to the skin.

Argan (Argania Spinosa) originates from Southern Morocco which makes this product quite expensive.It is yellow in colour and has a lot more Vitamin E (Tocopherol) than olive oil. It is resistant to oxidation with good free radical scavengers.It’s great for damaged and mature skin as it assists the restructuring of the cells.

Avocado (Persea Gratissima) contains essential fatty acids that our body needs but cannot produce. This helps create and rebuild new cells, contain omega-3, omega-6 fatty acids, Linoleic Acid (LA), Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA). So if this is what Avocado does for our bodies from the inside, the outside
is going to love it just as much.

Avocado originally came from Central America, but now is grown around the world.It is rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, and Beta carotene. Classified as a monosaturated oil, Avocado is best suited for dry skin conditions in topical applications. It should be green in colour if unadulterated and it comes from the flesh of the fruit. It is great for rehydrating, regenerating and helping the elasticity of the skin.With other carrier oils, Avocado enriches the vitamin and protein content.

Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing.It is used in sun and after-sun products, as well as to help children with nappy rashes, grazes, and Mums who are nursing.

Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) comes from the seeds of the plants which are grown worldwide.It is very rich in Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), a fatty substance used for skin conditions like Eczema. Evening Primrose is used in various skin products, creams, bath oils, and hair conditioners as it helps the skin’s elasticity and therefore repairing damaged, dry and aging skin. Taking supplements can also be used to help calm skin conditions from within.

Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is actually a liquid wax. Jojoba resembles the sebum of the skin very closely and is naturally rich in Vitamin E.This helps promotes the glow in our complexions, as this oil is very light and is absorbed quickly.

Wheatgerm is found in our Vitamin Rich Range to help with skin that has Acne / Rosacea, has been irritated, damaged, and needs some love and affection. The Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm and Evanesce Balm for those that have Acne which needs treatment.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol Acetate) is a natural preservative and a strong antioxidant. It is used in various skincare products such as acne, lip balms, anti-wrinkle, cleansers, and peels for sensitive skin.

What I find amazing is how much better these Vegetable Oils have. Their wonderful properties boost our skin’s reserves with goodness and help maintain the elasticity whilst promoting cell regeneration. Combined with the Essential Oils, there really is no need to include other unnatural ingredients to our blends.In future blogs, I can share more information about how wonderful these Vegetable Oils are, in the quest of choosing the best ingredients for making the Essentially Lili Skincare products. If there are any Oils that you would like me to include, please let me know.
