Have you noticed an increase in breakouts on your facial areas once the mask is removed?   If your answer to this question is yes, then ‘Maskne’ – acne mechanica is what scientists are calling this kind of acne which is caused by mask wearing.

We have been wearing masks to protect ourselves from potentially becoming ill as well as protecting others. But it has been causing our skin to become hot, sticky and sweaty underneath the fabric & materials. The friction against our faces can become uncomfortable, though it can foster the growth of bacteria and oil whilst being worn throughout the day.Our pores become clogged with dirt, sweat and oil as the masks keeps these trapped against our skin. In no time, these have developed into acne, particularly in the areas where the mask is resting.

For those who are in an environment where masks are required for longer periods of time, you may notice your skin is drastically more dehydrated, itchy and irritated. This can lead to other conditions like Eczema.Sadly, the acne breakouts and Eczema is happening for younger children as a result of wearing masks.

The masks are trapping all sorts of bacteria under What are some things we can do to prevent and aid these breakouts?

Change your Masks Often – if you have the opportunity, bring spare masks with you to changeover throughout the day.Try not to re-use the same mask to prevent putting the bacteria collected back onto your face.If you’re using the disposal masks, ensure they’re put in bins to prevent others from touching them.If you’re using washable masks, place them in the laundry bag for your next wash.

Keep Hands & Face Clean – Make sure you’re washing your hands, carrying your sanitizers with you as well.If your skin is feeling hot and sweaty, rinse your face with warm water and pat with a tissue. This temporary solution during the day, will assist in preventing the build up of dirt whilst mask wearing.

Wash Your Face – Once at home, and not going out again, cleanse your face and neck thoroughly.Make sure the ingredients are not harsh, to prevent further irritation to your skin’s condition. Some products contain retinyl acetate, parabens, aluminium and alcohol. From the Essentially Lili range, we have two cleansers available. You can choose from Cypress Cleansing Balm which is made with Beeswax, Butters and Essential Oils, or the oil-based Sunflower Cleanser which is great for treating acne.

Should we cleanse with our fingers or towels? – I would suggest to use your finger tips to gently massage the product into your skin whilst stimulating the removal of pollutants as well as encouraging blood flow.Rinse your face and neck with warm water, before using your face towel to pat dry your face.In this way, you’re not using disposable wipes or your face towel to cleanse, which ends up being more environmentally friendly. It will also prevent the built-up bacteria remaining in your face towel. If you prefer to use a face towel for cleansing, make sure you put it in the wash and get a clean one for the next session.

Wearing Foundation under masks – this can also cause your skin’s pores to become clogged with bacteria, particularly if you have to wear the mask for long periods of time.If you can avoid wearing make-up when wearing your mask for long periods, it can help prevent Maskne from occurring underneath.

Watch your dietary intake – irrespective of the breakouts occurring from mask wearing or hormonal changes, there’s plenty of foods that cause our skin to become agitated. These include highly processed foods, sugar, fried foods and alcoholic drinks.Ensure your diet contains plenty of colours and whole foods, are rich in fibre and Vitamins too.

Don’t Pop – this will prevent unnecessary scarring and stress if you treat acne as naturally as possible.

Use Natural Skincare Products – In the mornings, after rinsing your face with warm water, ensure you moisturise your face to prevent it from drying out whilst wearing the mask for the day.At night time, ensure that you moisturise your face after you have cleansed your skin.

There’s a number of all-natural products from the Essentially Lili range which help treat, calm, rebalance and restore the skin’s healthy condition. All of these do not contain any harmful ingredients. For Acne prone skin, suitable also for youngsters and adults, there is Evanesce Balm which helps treat acne gently. It can be used in conjunction with Magic Serum .If your skin is prone to breaking out with both Acne and Rosacea, choose either the Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm or Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm.

Exfoliate once a week – – Exfoliating shouldn’t really be done more than once a week to prevent the removal of the necessary natural oils from your skin’s base. However, once a week, as part of the pampering sessions with clay masks and other fun items from your kitchen, exfoliating will allow for dead skin cells and built up bacteria to be removed from your skin, preventing Maskne from occurring. You can do your own steam treatment, then exfoliate you face to aid your skin feeling fabulous again. If you don’t have your own, you can check out my previous blogs for ideas: What’s in Your Fridge?

For other tips, I shared a Blog called How to Treat Cystic Acne in your 30s which many related to especially post pregnancy & during hormonal changes.

Whilst Maskne seems to be part of the new normal, taking care of our skin has altered to accommodate the changes.Remember to keep an eye on your dietary intake, stress levels as well as hygiene processes. Don’t wear used or dirty masks twice, and ensure that your face towels are washed regularly, especially if used as part of the cleansing process. For all-natural products that don’t contain any harmful ingredients, consider the Essentially Lili range which are soft, calming, gentle to use, whilst restoring, rebalancing and aiding the well-being of your skin.

Testimonials for me is when someone shares their personal individual story of struggle, trials, falling, rising and reaching their goal. Whether it’s a combination of health & diet, studies and a higher purpose in life.

Often, someone comes to me privately on a direct message asking for help.Usually it’s skin related – Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne and dry skin. For me, who has had a history with dry irritated sensitive Eczema prone skin, these issues are something I can help with first hand. But sometimes the condition is something that I haven’t suffered or endured before. Therefore, providing help requires a little more time to research before coming up with a small batch of product for them to try out.

In 2016, I was asked to make a product for Sun Spots and Discolouration. I made both Sun Kissed Serum and Sun Kissed Balm for this condition, giving out samples to try out. Then I received this testimonial in message in Feb & April 2018:

After enjoying too much sun in Spain some time back, I got some really nasty brown blotches on my cheeks. I was so bad, I had to use a lot of foundation to cover them up, and I am really not a foundation person.Lili recommended the Sun Kissed Balm and I started using the Balm in the evening, after cleansing my face with Cypress Cleansing Balm. It took a couple of weeks to see the first effect, I had to be a bit patient, yet my skin recovered over time and today I am back to a healthy skin tone. People around me noticed the difference and started positively commenting on my skin and how it recovered. I can recommend the Sun Kissed Balm and I am now more careful when out in the sun. Together with good sun screen, sun hat and Sun Kissed Balm I should never experience looking like I had been sprayed with chocolate. Thanks Lili x

Another happy customer wrote in April:
Hi Lili, the Products are great. Even my son & husband are trying the products this time around. Magic Serum and balm worked great for me this last week. Now that my acne has already cleared up I am onto using the Sun Kissed Balm at night! I can’t wait to see how Sun Kissed Balm that helps my sunspots! I will never go back to using over the counter face products as long as you are in business. I guess you have to always keep me as a private client no matter what!

In 2018, a Mum asked for help with Cystic Acne.I suggested the Cypress Cleansing Balm , Magic Serum and Evanesce Balm combination. Then I received this testimonial in message in Feb 2018:

Since I was a teenager I’ve suffered from greasy skin, pimples and black spots. I’ve learnt to fight and control them but after giving birth to my son I had breakouts every week.During the years I’ve tried different brands including the most popular but also natural. Some did their job sometimes others didn’t… nothing compared to Lili’s all-natural products. I’ve been using Cypress Cleansing Balm and Evanesce Balm every night for the last 3 weeks adding Magic Serum on the most difficult spots and I can only say they are Amazing. No oily shine, my pimples have almost disappeared completely… and my skin looks and feels great.I told Lili I thought the products were a bit expensive but now I’m sooooo happy having bought them. They are worth every penny. Evenmore, as you need a tiny amount of product each time, the products will last several months. I can only recommend Essentially Lili products for a healthy and beautiful skin.

A customer asks for a Combination of Kids and Adult Products, including Vitamin Rich for the combination of Acne/Rosacea.Then she wrote to me in April:

I am SO happy to have discovered Lili and her amazing products. I have tried the Natural Baby Moisturising Oil and the Happy Babies Hydrosol for my kids with amazing results. No more cracked skin during winter time and added benefit that they are learning to take care of their skin from a very early age. I have tried the Frankincense Face Serum and the Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm. Both these products bring so many emotions and feels even by just opening the products and before applying it you have Euphoria all over you. My skin needed these so badly. Having used them twice a day for 15 days now, I can truly tell the difference and the skin is well maintained and moisturised. I am never going back to commercial products since I now know the source of all good and natural products. If you are hesitant in trying Lili’s products, don’t be. Natural is always the best for you and Lili surely knows it. Thanks @Lili Giglia for all the hard work you do for making these amazing products! A very loyal customer from now on.

Gallery: Testimonials: Sun Kissed Balm, A whole lot of Magic, Cool Eyes, Evanesce Balm, Geranium Hands & Body and Renew Balm.

Sometimes my products don’t work out the first time. I initially made What Crow’s Feet in 2016 for the Eyes, but then when one of my dedicated testers reacted, I stopped making it.Then I made the Cool Eyes when I found the glass jars. I love this tiny pot of Gold magic, but it’s not about what I think. It’s what my customers think.

In August 2017, one suffering with Milia wrote this:

LOVE IT! The Cool Eyes is super creamy & smooth and it hydrates the skin around my eyes. The best thing is it reduced the Milia I have around my eyes. I see results just after 3 weeks of usage! And the product is all natural. I’m so glad that I found this Lili.

Another Customer needed a little convincing to try out the Cool Eyes but was soon very thankful she had bought it:

Omg my puffy upper eyelid disappeared in 30 minutes on Saturday morning after just ONE application of Cool Eyes. What the heck is in that tiny pot????!!!

The Mandarin Lip Balm is one of the latest products to the range. After a few attempts, we quite like this latest blend with Mandarin and Tea Tree, which helps get rid of any infections and viruses too. I took it to a Women’s Meet up in Zurich this March and let the ladies sample it. I know I can’t complain about this result that she wrote the next day:

Lili, your Mandarin Lip Balm was really good. I have found only one good in 40 years and yours is the 2nd best one!!

Another Customer wrote to me:
I had a persistent hard sore on my lip which nothing seemed to make it go away. I have been using the Mandarin Lip Balm since it was made and the hard sore has gone, my lips are now soft again. Not much is required either! Thanks so much.

Gallery: Hand & Body Products, Coloured Clays, Before & After photos of 2nd Degree Burns using Renew Balm.

This story is by far the best result. When I was asked about 2nd degree burns, I was thinking about the products I make, the age of the child and what would be best for her skin. I made my suggestion to the concerned and stressed out mum when she replied, ‘No, I was told to get Renew Balm ’. I went back through my reviews and testimonials and found a comment made by my brother in Australia.

I have been using the Renew Balm for some time now and it has completely renewed the skin on my hands. I had an acid burn that has now cleared up completely. Thanks Lili.

The Renew Balm was sent over to the little girl and I waited for updates, when I received this 2 months later:
My 5 year-old daughter spilt boiling hot tea down her upper chest and ended up with second degree burns. It had blistered and the doctors were very concerned about scaring, especially since it’s such an important part of the female body. We needed to apply any form of cream (of our choice) to the scar every day for at least a year and to be prepared for a scar. Once the last scabs had fallen away, a friend recommended we try the Essentially Lili Renew Balm . We rubbed it on her scar every day for 2 months and she already has no marks left to show. The doctor was very impressed and we are so thankful that she will have no issues with a scar at all. Thank you for all your help, guidance and support Lili.

I had the pleasure of meeting this little girl in person this week and was so happy to see that there’s not a single mark or scar on her body for the burns.

There are so many stories which just make me so happy to read and know that the Essentially Lili products have contributed to bringing happiness to that situation. If you are one of those people, please share your reviews on the Facebook Page and the Webpage Others read these stories and testimonials, which help them choose their products without my help!!

Where the conditions are more serious and gut related, don’t forget to keep an eye on your diet / food intake to ensure that you’re not aggravating the skin. On the last blog, I talked about what kind of ingredients to look out for if you have certain conditions. Be sure to check out that list or message me for more information.

In Summary, if you want to make a change to your diet, start my reducing the saturated fats, sugars, carbs and processed foods. Eat more greens and salads as they are lighter to digest.

On the newsletter, I wrote about Carrot Seed Essential Oil.
To make your own gentle scrub for your face, place these ingredients into a jar and scoop when needed.
• Add Honey which is great for healing the skin as it allows the skin to maintain moisture and keep it soft.
Coconut Oil which is antifungal and also helps moisturise the skin.
• Add the grounded Coffee to the scrub. It has antioxidants which help your skin, but also give the texture for gently scrubbing off skin cells that no longer need to be there!
• Add a few drops of Carrot Seed Oil to the mix, which is fabulous for all skin types, as well as boosting skin that has been sun-damaged.
Alternative ingredients – You can use Oatmeal, Olive Oil, Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oil.

If you are looking to fast forward your journey to recovery, you can book your Consult Therapist session.

I will help you get the results you want as I have already been on that hard journey. It takes courage to persist with getting the results you want. It definitely has high and low moments but I will empathise, sympathise and encourage you along your path.

Baobab oil contains Omega 3, 6 & 9 Fatty Acids,
Antioxidants, Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6,
Vitamins C, D, E, F with proteins & minerals. It has the high content of Vitamin A which are vital
for skin rejuvenation & anti-ageing.

From our previous Blog – Favourite Vegetable Oils – I explained that our bodies’ cell walls and membranes contain quite a lot of fats and oils. Therefore if we use nutritious oils in our foods and skincare products, it actually helps us to maintain the fluidity of our cells.

I shared why I love these particular oils in the previous blog: Argan, Avocado, Calendula, Evening Primrose, Jojoba, Sunflower, Wheatgerm and Vitamin E. These are just the surface to the wonderful vegetable oils available for helping the skin and body to feel great all the time.

Baobab Oil (Adansonia digitata) contains Omega 3, 6 & 9 Fatty Acids, Antioxidants, Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, Vitamin C, D, E, F, proteins & minerals. It has the high content of Vitamins A and F which are vital for skin rejuvenation and anti-aging.

These factors contribute to maintaining healthy skin, makes an excellent moisturiser as it is a highly penetrating oil. Baobab leaves the skin feeling soft as it absorbs quickly and doesn’t clog the pores, which is great for sensitive skin.Baobab Oil is fabulous for those who suffer from, Eczema, Sun Spots, Actinic keratosis amongst other conditions, as it is intensely rich and nourishing on the skin and hair.

Baobab originates in Africa, and is referred to as the ‘Upside-Down-Tree’.The diameter of the tree’s trunk is often 11m in diameter, growing as high as 30 meters. There are currently Baobab trees that are over 1200 years old, and it is believed it can live up to 6000 years. In order to survive the harshest of droughts, the Baobab tree can store up to 100,000 litres of water in its trunk. The velvety shelled fruit produced by the Baobab tree is about the size of a coconut, weighing around 1.5kgs.

When I bought my first bottle of Baobab Oil, I wanted to ensure it was included in the right products I make. The first recipe to be amended was our Natural Baby Moisturising Oil as I wanted little our ones to get the best oils possible for our baby’s delicate skin.

Being great for lines and wrinkles, I had to add it to the Over 50’s Precious Diamond Era products for Classy, Strong Women who want the best for their skin. Baobab with Rosemary Essential Oil are included in the Diamond Era Balm and Diamond Era Serum.  To ensure inclusion, Baobab was included to the Men’s Range Hydrating Face Balm with a wonderful masculine blend including Sandalwood, Patchouli and Geranium.

Baobab has worked wonders in the Vitamin Rich Range as it boots the rejuvenation process for skin that needs a little more love and attention. These include the Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm. Our Eczema & Psoriasis products also have Baobab Oil to help boost the skin’s reserves and speed up the restoration process. Renew Balm for those that need help with conditions like Eczema, or Oasis Balm for Psoriasis, whilst Evanesce Balm assists those struggling with Acne.

Using Baobab Oil specifically for moisturising dry skin conditions should be done often until the skin feels better. Baobab oil can be used on children and pregnant women which is a bonus considering how many benefits it has.

Baobab is a one stop product. I will write about other Vegetable and Essential Oils in future blogs, sharing why I choose them for the Essentially Lili Skincare products. If there is anything you would like me to share about, please let me know below.

Favourite Vegetable Oils

Sunflower is amongst the richest Carrier Oils,
loaded with benefits, which allow
for direct & safe application of
Essential Oils without causing irritations.

QR BLOGMAR17

The Vegetable Oils used for Product making are not the kind you would normally buy at the Supermarket. Those in the stores are exposed to direct Sunlight, shop lighting, and heating which can cause the oils to degrade. Extra Virgin Oil is normally stored in dark glass bottles, so taking this from the back of the row is a good idea!

As our bodies’ cell walls and membranes contain quite a lot of fats and oils, it makes sense for us to use nutritious oils in our foods and skincare products. These will help us maintain the fluidity of our cells.

Did you know that using oils as a cleanser actually helps your skin? The oil softens any sebum which
may be blocking the pores, allowing these to be removed. For this, I have added Sunflower Cleanser to the range of products.

There are plenty of Vegetable Oils to choose from, which vary in colour, natural fragrance, and price. Familiar oils include Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond, and Coconut. These are found in many skincare products that help repair and calm sensitive skin.

The following Vegetable Oils are some that I use in the Essentially Lili range because I love what they do for the skin:

Sunflower Oil (Helianthus annuus) has very little scent compared to another vegetable/carrier oils, and absorbs easily into the skin, leaving very little residue. Sunflower Oil has high concentrates of Vitamins A, B, D, and E, as well as minerals, lecithin, insulin. It is a great product for the skin, adding UV protection qualities together with the unsaturated essential fatty acids. Sunflower is amongst the ingredients found in Sun Kissed Serum to help with the effects of the sun for those that have been ‘kissed’.

Wheatgerm Oil (Triticum sativum) is obtained from the germ of the wheat. It is extremely high content in Vitamin E which is a natural antioxidant and preservative, together with essential fatty acids, Vitamins A, B & D. Wheatgerm helps promote circulation and increase blood flow, which is great for damaged or scarred skin. It helps form new cells to improve the appearance of the skin and to help repair sun damage to the skin.

Argan (Argania Spinosa) originates from Southern Morocco which makes this product quite expensive. It is yellow in colour and has a lot more Vitamin E (Tocopherol) than olive oil. It is resistant to oxidation with good free radical scavengers. It’s great for damaged and mature skin as it assists the restructuring of the cells.

Avocado (Persea Gratissima) contains essential fatty acids that our body needs but cannot produce. This helps create and rebuild new cells, contain omega-3, omega-6 fatty acids, Linoleic Acid (LA), Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA). So if this is what Avocado does for our bodies from the inside, the outside
is going to love it just as much.

Avocado originally came from Central America, but now is grown around the world. It is rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, and Beta carotene. Classified as a monosaturated oil, Avocado is best suited for dry skin conditions in topical applications. It should be green in colour if unadulterated and it comes from the flesh of the fruit. It is great for rehydrating, regenerating and helping the elasticity of the skin. With other carrier oils, Avocado enriches the vitamin and protein content.

Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing. It is used in sun and after-sun products, as well as to help children with nappy rashes, grazes, and Mums who are nursing.

Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) comes from the seeds of the plants which are grown worldwide. It is very rich in Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), a fatty substance used for skin conditions like Eczema. Evening Primrose is used in various skin products, creams, bath oils, and hair conditioners as it helps the skin’s elasticity and therefore repairing damaged, dry and aging skin. Taking supplements can also be used to help calm skin conditions from within.

Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is actually a liquid wax. Jojoba resembles the sebum of the skin very closely and is naturally rich in Vitamin E.This helps promotes the glow in our complexions, as this oil is very light and is absorbed quickly.

Wheatgerm is found in our Vitamin Rich Range to help with skin that has Acne / Rosacea, has been irritated, damaged, and needs some love and affection. The Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm and Evanesce Balm for those that have Acne which needs treatment.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol Acetate) is a natural preservative and a strong antioxidant. It is used in various skincare products such as acne, lip balms, anti-wrinkle, cleansers, and peels for sensitive skin.

What I find amazing is how much better these Vegetable Oils have. Their wonderful properties boost our skin’s reserves with goodness and help maintain the elasticity whilst promoting cell regeneration. Combined with the Essential Oils, there really is no need to include other unnatural ingredients to our blends. In future blogs, I can share more information about how wonderful these Vegetable Oils are, in the quest of choosing the best ingredients for making the Essentially Lili Skincare products. If there are any Oils that you would like me to include, please let me know.

Check out the Gallery of Pictures – includes Giant Sunflower, Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm, Diamond Era Serum, Avocado & Samples of Liquid Gold.
