Have you noticed an increase in breakouts on your facial areas once the mask is removed?   If your answer to this question is yes, then ‘Maskne’ – acne mechanica is what scientists are calling this kind of acne which is caused by mask wearing.

We have been wearing masks to protect ourselves from potentially becoming ill as well as protecting others.But it has been causing our skin to become hot, sticky and sweaty underneath the fabric & materials.The friction against our faces can become uncomfortable, though it can foster the growth of bacteria and oil whilst being worn throughout the day.Our pores become clogged with dirt, sweat and oil as the masks keeps these trapped against our skin. In no time, these have developed into acne, particularly in the areas where the mask is resting.

For those who are in an environment where masks are required for longer periods of time, you may notice your skin is drastically more dehydrated, itchy and irritated.This can lead to other conditions like Eczema.Sadly, the acne breakouts and Eczema is happening for younger children as a result of wearing masks.

The masks are trapping all sorts of bacteria under What are some things we can do to prevent and aid these breakouts?

Change your Masks Often – if you have the opportunity, bring spare masks with you to changeover throughout the day.Try not to re-use the same mask to prevent putting the bacteria collected back onto your face.If you’re using the disposal masks, ensure they’re put in bins to prevent others from touching them.If you’re using washable masks, place them in the laundry bag for your next wash.

Keep Hands & Face Clean – Make sure you’re washing your hands, carrying your sanitizers with you as well.If your skin is feeling hot and sweaty, rinse your face with warm water and pat with a tissue. This temporary solution during the day, will assist in preventing the build up of dirt whilst mask wearing.

Wash Your Face – Once at home, and not going out again, cleanse your face and neck thoroughly.Make sure the ingredients are not harsh, to prevent further irritation to your skin’s condition. Some products contain retinyl acetate, parabens, aluminium and alcohol. From the Essentially Lili range, we have two cleansers available.You can choose from Cypress Cleansing Balm which is made with Beeswax, Butters and Essential Oils, or the oil-based Sunflower Cleanser which is great for treating acne.

Should we cleanse with our fingers or towels? – I would suggest to use your finger tips to gently massage the product into your skin whilst stimulating the removal of pollutants as well as encouraging blood flow.Rinse your face and neck with warm water, before using your face towel to pat dry your face.In this way, you’re not using disposable wipes or your face towel to cleanse, which ends up being more environmentally friendly.It will also prevent the built-up bacteria remaining in your face towel.If you prefer to use a face towel for cleansing, make sure you put it in the wash and get a clean one for the next session.

Wearing Foundation under masks – this can also cause your skin’s pores to become clogged with bacteria, particularly if you have to wear the mask for long periods of time.If you can avoid wearing make-up when wearing your mask for long periods, it can help prevent Maskne from occurring underneath.

Watch your dietary intake – irrespective of the breakouts occurring from mask wearing or hormonal changes, there’s plenty of foods that cause our skin to become agitated.These include highly processed foods, sugar, fried foods and alcoholic drinks.Ensure your diet contains plenty of colours and whole foods, are rich in fibre and Vitamins too.

Don’t Pop – this will prevent unnecessary scarring and stress if you treat acne as naturally as possible.

Use Natural Skincare Products – In the mornings, after rinsing your face with warm water, ensure you moisturise your face to prevent it from drying out whilst wearing the mask for the day.At night time, ensure that you moisturise your face after you have cleansed your skin.

There’s a number of all-natural products from the Essentially Lili range which help treat, calm, rebalance and restore the skin’s healthy condition.All of these do not contain any harmful ingredients. For Acne prone skin, suitable also for youngsters and adults, there is Evanesce Balm which helps treat acne gently.It can be used in conjunction with Magic Serum .If your skin is prone to breaking out with both Acne and Rosacea, choose either the Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm or Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm.

Exfoliate once a week – – Exfoliating shouldn’t really be done more than once a week to prevent the removal of the necessary natural oils from your skin’s base.However, once a week, as part of the pampering sessions with clay masks and other fun items from your kitchen, exfoliating will allow for dead skin cells and built up bacteria to be removed from your skin, preventing Maskne from occurring.You can do your own steam treatment, then exfoliate you face to aid your skin feeling fabulous again.If you don’t have your own, you can check out my previous blogs for ideas: What’s in Your Fridge?

For other tips, I shared a Blog called How to Treat Cystic Acne in your 30s which many related to especially post pregnancy & during hormonal changes.

Whilst Maskne seems to be part of the new normal, taking care of our skin has altered to accommodate the changes.Remember to keep an eye on your dietary intake, stress levels as well as hygiene processes. Don’t wear used or dirty masks twice, and ensure that your face towels are washed regularly, especially if used as part of the cleansing process.For all-natural products that don’t contain any harmful ingredients, consider the Essentially Lili range which are soft, calming, gentle to use, whilst restoring, rebalancing and aiding the well-being of your skin.

What Your Face Reveals About You

What Your Face
Reveals about you

As the skin maps out your body,
telling amazing truths.

History & Genesis of these techniques:

History & Genesis of Face Mapping techniques, as used by the ancient Chinese & Ayurvedic medicine helps determine one’s health based on acne patterns.

This practise is over 3,000 years old and is otherwise known as ‘face reading or mien shiang’ which is based on the flow of energy along specific meridians throughout the body.Disturbances to this flow of energy affects the ‘Qi’, which then manifests on the face with breakouts, redness, spots, or other issues.

Face Mapping technique observes the person’s complexion, whether there is colour, dullness, breakouts, as well as checking the expression and the health of their tongue.With Ayurvedic methods focuses on the person’s body type (Dosha) whilst Chinese medicine involves manipulating the body’s meridians.When the main organs are not functioning properly, it can affect the overall health of the body.For example, increased redness, inflammation and breakouts could be the result of poor liver health and a build-up of toxins in the liver.Other digestive organs that could cause problems include the spleen, intestines, kidneys and stomach.Skin health is also subjected to diet, lack of sleep, use of medications, emotional anguish combined with high stress levels.

This process is similar to Reflexology.In the 1930’s, Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist for Dr. Joseph Shelby Riley, became an advocate for Zone Therapy which she studied and used on her patients.She found that the feet responded well to the therapy due to their extreme sensitivity.Applying pressure to varying trigger points which corresponded to an area to the feet, her patients were able to feel less pain.This Body Mapping onto the feet became the Genesis of Reflexology.

In the early 20th Century, publishing about Zone Therapy was done by Dr. William Fitzgerald, who showed how applying pressure to certain parts corresponded to other parts of the body.Dr. Edwin Bowers, his colleague, validated this theory using dramatic demonstrations. Whilst administering pressure to the area in the hands, a sticking pin was entered onto the face, corresponding to the area being treated, without causing pain.This ‘Acupuncture’ process is closely linked to Reflexology and Face Mapping, where it assists relieving the flow of energy throughout the body.Executing pressure to the trigger points related to the various organs in the body allow for the meridians to be released.

What’s fabulous about Reflexology is an alternative therapy is that it can bring relief to so many areas, when performed correctly.
• It can help unblock tensions built up in the muscles and organs, releasing deposits, knots and other hindrances;
• It can assist the whole body’s natural flow and progression, from digestion to increased blood flow, allowing for nutrients to be circulated and carried throughout the system; and
• It can work as a natural pain killer by releasing endorphins.

Modern Uses of Face Mapping Techniques:

Today it is generally used for helping with problems like Acne, because the flare ups tend to happen in the same locations like the chin and forehead. It can also be used to treat puffiness, lines, wrinkles, redness and rashes caused by food allergies. The face is zoned out, just like the feet in Reflexology, to help indicate what could be the underlying problems for the skin:
• A stressed or poor functioning liver or imbalanced kidneys, stomach, bladder or spleen can result in breakouts, lines or wrinkles between your eyes and eyebrows, or the nose area;
• Breakouts on the forehead could be related to how the small intestine and bladder functions, in conjunction with poor digestion, stress levels and lack of sleep;
• Acne around the mouth, jaw or on the chin could be related to the stomach, large intestine and colon, as well the reproductive system being imbalanced;
• The whole digestive system, spleen and kidneys not working efficiently, or building up toxins could result in acne appearing below the lips and on the lower chin;
Gut related problems or inflammation of the small intestines could result in breakouts near the nostrils;
• Spots or pimples around the cheekbones could be the result of immune issues, allergies, respiratory concerns or smoking;
• These could also be due to hormonal issues, stress and the reactions to our immune system.

The condition of your face and skin can determine whether or not you’re consuming plenty of vegetables, are prone to high blood pressure, drink too much coffee, don’t sleep enough or lack the vitamins required for your body to function healthily. Treating the root causes can ultimately assist with achieving an acne free life, irrespective of your age.

Science, however believes that the ancient methods are not as useful or exact for everyone.Looking closely to the skin, asking about lifestyle and the environment you work and live in will determine a better understanding for resolving issues:
Our lifestyles are more demanding and stressful, impacting our facial skin and its appearance;
• Changes in the ingredients and how our foods are made, together with high levels of processing;
• Our gut health could require re-balancing with probiotic bacteria to help eliminate the toxins clogged in the intestines;
Imbalanced or increased production of androgenic hormones, like testosterone, can over create excess secretion of sebum, which can drastically affect how our body reacts;
• The accumulation of sebum and bacteria inside the pores can become infected or inflamed, causing clogged skin cells, pimples or cystic acne;
Dead skin cells can also cause blockages, creating whiteheads, blackheads and varying kinds of acne;
Poor hygiene, sweating or not cleaning excess oils gently can affect our skin;
Immune or allergic reactions to modern skincare, makeup and hair products can create irritations to our skin;
• We tend to sleep less or have poor sleep habits;
Family history and genetics can determine the time process for new skin development and likelihood of acne breakouts;
• For some, the environment they are exposed to can cause the pores to become blocked and prone to acne breakouts;
Exposure to the sun can irritate the skin for some; and
• Other health issues like diabetes and poor circulation can also have adverse effects on the skin.

Some of the above mentioned factors will have nothing to do with the results of Face Mapping and the condition of one’s internal organs.It does give an overall guide for where to begin the process for well-being, a way to promote natural health products which may not necessarily address the actual cause for the acne breakouts.

Youth Face Balm, Evanesce Balm, Magic Serum, Cleansing, Nourishing Face Balm, Frankincense Face Serum, Vitamin Rich Products & Cool Eyes.

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes”. Quote By Sophia Loren.

In all things, common sense should be applied first and foremost. Start with the basics:
• Cleanse your face with gentle products at night time, to remove environmental pollutants from your skin;
• Remember that these can cause a build-up of dirt, accumulation of sebum which could become infected;
• Protect your skin from the sun during the day with a decent sunblock;
• If you have any skin infections, treat these with products that will soothe and balance the skin;
• To prevent transferring bacteria to other parts of your face and body, try not to touch your face and skin throughout the day, unless your hands are clean;
• Look more closely at lifestyle and diet, making changes where necessary, especially if you notice reactions or allergies to foods, drinks and other commercial products;
• Eating a more balanced healthier diet should assist in achieving the results you want;
• However, if the symptoms carry on despite good hygiene and healthy eating, it would be worth seeking the assistance of a consultant specialising in Face Mapping.

In conclusion, whilst the concept of Face Mapping has been used for a long time by the Chinese and Ayurvedic practitioners, the results may not necessarily be as black and white as believed.
A combination of poor organ functionality with lifestyle stresses, environmental and diet related issues could also be the culprits to the lack of healthy glow of your skin.Be sure to look at your overall health in a holistic way. Try to deal with stressful situations and lifestyle concerns which will ultimately make you feel better in the longer term.Take care of your skin, consume the right kinds of foods and drink water to help flush the toxins from your digestive tract.

If you are seeking Product to help resolve Acne concerns:
• I would recommend cleansing your skin only at night time, to remove pollutants and environmental build-ups in your skin.This allows the pores to be cleared and impurities removed.New skin cells are generated whilst we sleep, so cleansing in the mornings will remove these, which we don’t want to do. Cypress Cleansing Balm which is made with Beeswax, Butters and Essential Oils or the Oil based Sunflower Cleanser.
• The Frankincense Face Serum is gorgeous on the skin, and has Ylang Ylang to help combat the occasional breakout;
• However, the Magic Serum helps treat more problematic Acne prone skin;
• For Acne/Rosacea prone skin, we have Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm if your skin needs more tender loving care due to irritation or damage;
• For treating Acne alone, Evanesce Balm;
• For Youths who only have Acne breakouts, Youth Face Balm;
• For hydration, there are a few varying products: For men over 30, there’s the Hydrating Face Balm;
• For women over 30, there’s Nourishing Face Balm; and
• For women over 50, Diamond Era Balm.

There will be something for everyone who wants to help deal with how their skin looks and feels.

The Anguish of
Rosacea with Acne

And trying to find
a calming solution.

QR BLOGSEP18

Recently, I was contacted by women & men of varying ages to help them with Rosacea.

According to Wikipedia, ‘Rosacea is a long term skin condition which affects mainly the face.
The effects are on the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin, usually showing redness, with pimples and swelling, that have small superficial dilated blood vessels.
The cause of Rosacea is unknown, though the risk factors are believed to be linked with family history. The signs of Rosacea can get worse when exposed to heat or cold, exercise, sunlight, spicy foods, alcohol, psychological stress, or during menopause and with the use of steroid/cortisone creams.
These steroid creams include metronidazole, doxycycline, tetracycline, brimonidine, ivermectin, isotretinoin.
Sunscreen is recommended, though we should all be using sunblock for our skin, irrespectively.
Often patients endure dermabrasion or laser surgery.’

When I have seen someone with Rosacea, it looks extremely irritated, dry, and aggravated. Those from far who have contacted me have said this condition makes them feel like others are staring at them, or that it’s very hot and irritating, that the medicated products are not working, and extremely depressing, where the woman didn’t want to leave her home anymore.

I just want to encourage you that you are not alone. There have been others that suffered the same condition and have been able to find a solution.

Part of it is being aware of what your body is telling you to avoid.
More and more people are unable to eat the kinds of foods they ate in their younger years, whether it be simple things like Pepper, Chillies, and spices.

A few tips:
• Don’t be afraid to control or give up certain foods whilst your body re-balances itself.
• Try to find alternatives to the things you loved having.
• Make sure you maintain a skincare routine that is as natural as possible. Often the products available are either suppress the conditions, or they are too harsh as they strip the necessary natural oils from our skin’s reserves. When this happens, your body will make more oils to replenish what has been lost, creating an ongoing cycle. We remove the oils, the body makes it again, we remove them and so on.
• Make sure you also drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Be realistic about the results you are looking for. Normally I ask how long someone has had the condition – and for every year, you should give the skin 1 month to repair and re-balance.
Whilst the results often happen quickly, the time taken to repair years of damage is usually much longer. The reality is that if you have had a long-term skin condition, it will need time to repair, recover and to give you that glow back

If you are suffering with Rosacea and would like personal assistance, please book a Consult Therapist session.

I would always recommend cleansing your skin at night time, to ensure that the healing process commences. You can choose between the Cypress Cleansing Balm which is made with Beeswax, Butters and Essential Oils, or the Sunflower Cleanser which is oil-based and contains Lemon & Ylang Ylang essential oils.

The other products made for Rosacea with Acne are Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm. Don’t let yourself endure more anguish with your skin due to irritation or damage. If it’s just Acne that needs treating, Evanesce Balm with Magic Serum for those stubborn areas. For others who only have Rosacea, Nourishing Face Balm with the Frankincense Face Serum has been effective. Check out the variety of Help Skin Assistance products available on the webpage.

Are Your Personal Journey to Success
& reaching skin health & well-being.

Testimonials for me is when someone shares their personal individual story of struggle, trials, falling, rising and reaching their goal. Whether it’s a combination of health & diet, studies and a higher purpose in life.

Often, someone comes to me privately on a direct message asking for help.Usually it’s skin related – Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne and dry skin.For me, who has had a history with dry irritated sensitive Eczema prone skin, these issues are something I can help with first hand.But sometimes the condition is something that I haven’t suffered or endured before. Therefore, providing help requires a little more time to research before coming up with a small batch of product for them to try out.

In 2016, I was asked to make a product for Sun Spots and Discolouration. I made both Sun Kissed Serum and Sun Kissed Balm for this condition, giving out samples to try out.Then I received this testimonial in message in Feb & April 2018:

After enjoying too much sun in Spain some time back, I got some really nasty brown blotches on my cheeks. I was so bad, I had to use a lot of foundation to cover them up, and I am really not a foundation person.Lili recommended the Sun Kissed Balm and I started using the Balm in the evening, after cleansing my face with Cypress Cleansing Balm. It took a couple of weeks to see the first effect, I had to be a bit patient, yet my skin recovered over time and today I am back to a healthy skin tone. People around me noticed the difference and started positively commenting on my skin and how it recovered. I can recommend the Sun Kissed Balm and I am now more careful when out in the sun. Together with good sun screen, sun hat and Sun Kissed Balm I should never experience looking like I had been sprayed with chocolate.Thanks Lili x

Another happy customer wrote in April:
Hi Lili, the Products are great. Even my son & husband are trying the products this time around. Magic Serum and balm worked great for me this last week. Now that my acne has already cleared up I am onto using the Sun Kissed Balm at night! I can’t wait to see how Sun Kissed Balm that helps my sunspots! I will never go back to using over the counter face products as long as you are in business. I guess you have to always keep me as a private client no matter what!

In 2018, a Mum asked for help with Cystic Acne.I suggested the Cypress Cleansing Balm , Magic Serum and Evanesce Balm combination.Then I received this testimonial in message in Feb 2018:

Since I was a teenager I’ve suffered from greasy skin, pimples and black spots. I’ve learnt to fight and control them but after giving birth to my son I had breakouts every week.During the years I’ve tried different brands including the most popular but also natural. Some did their job sometimes others didn’t… nothing compared to Lili’s all-natural products. I’ve been using Cypress Cleansing Balm and Evanesce Balm every night for the last 3 weeks adding Magic Serum on the most difficult spots and I can only say they are Amazing.No oily shine, my pimples have almost disappeared completely… and my skin looks and feels great.I told Lili I thought the products were a bit expensive but now I’m sooooo happy having bought them. They are worth every penny. Evenmore, as you need a tiny amount of product each time, the products will last several months. I can only recommend Essentially Lili products for a healthy and beautiful skin.

A customer asks for a Combination of Kids and Adult Products, including Vitamin Rich for the combination of Acne/Rosacea.Then she wrote to me in April:

I am SO happy to have discovered Lili and her amazing products. I have tried the Natural Baby Moisturising Oil and the Happy Babies Hydrosol for my kids with amazing results. No more cracked skin during winter time and added benefit that they are learning to take care of their skin from a very early age. I have tried the Frankincense Face Serum and the Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm.Both these products bring so many emotions and feels even by just opening the products and before applying it you have Euphoria all over you. My skin needed these so badly. Having used them twice a day for 15 days now, I can truly tell the difference and the skin is well maintained and moisturised. I am never going back to commercial products since I now know the source of all good and natural products. If you are hesitant in trying Lili’s products, don’t be. Natural is always the best for you and Lili surely knows it. Thanks @Lili Giglia for all the hard work you do for making these amazing products! A very loyal customer from now on.

Gallery: Testimonials: Sun Kissed Balm, A whole lot of Magic, Cool Eyes, Evanesce Balm, Geranium Hands & Body and Renew Balm.

Sometimes my products don’t work out the first time. I initially made What Crow’s Feet in 2016 for the Eyes, but then when one of my dedicated testers reacted, I stopped making it.Then I made the Cool Eyes when I found the glass jars. I love this tiny pot of Gold magic, but it’s not about what I think. It’s what my customers think.

In August 2017, one suffering with Milia wrote this:

LOVE IT! The Cool Eyes is super creamy & smooth and it hydrates the skin around my eyes. The best thing is it reduced the Milia I have around my eyes. I see results just after 3 weeks of usage! And the product is all natural. I’m so glad that I found this Lili.

Another Customer needed a little convincing to try out the Cool Eyes but was soon very thankful she had bought it:

Omg my puffy upper eyelid disappeared in 30 minutes on Saturday morning after just ONE application of Cool Eyes. What the heck is in that tiny pot????!!!

The Mandarin Lip Balm is one of the latest products to the range.After a few attempts, we quite like this latest blend with Mandarin and Tea Tree, which helps get rid of any infections and viruses too. I took it to a Women’s Meet up in Zurich this March and let the ladies sample it. I know I can’t complain about this result that she wrote the next day:

Lili, your Mandarin Lip Balm was really good. I have found only one good in 40 years and yours is the 2nd best one!!

Another Customer wrote to me:
I had a persistent hard sore on my lip which nothing seemed to make it go away. I have been using the Mandarin Lip Balm since it was made and the hard sore has gone, my lips are now soft again. Not much is required either! Thanks so much.

Gallery: Hand & Body Products, Coloured Clays, Before & After photos of 2nd Degree Burns using Renew Balm.

This story is by far the best result. When I was asked about 2nd degree burns, I was thinking about the products I make, the age of the child and what would be best for her skin. I made my suggestion to the concerned and stressed out mum when she replied, ‘No, I was told to get Renew Balm ’. I went back through my reviews and testimonials and found a comment made by my brother in Australia.

I have been using the Renew Balm for some time now and it has completely renewed the skin on my hands. I had an acid burn that has now cleared up completely. Thanks Lili.

The Renew Balm was sent over to the little girl and I waited for updates, when I received this 2 months later:
My 5 year-old daughter spilt boiling hot tea down her upper chest and ended up with second degree burns. It had blistered and the doctors were very concerned about scaring, especially since it’s such an important part of the female body. We needed to apply any form of cream (of our choice) to the scar every day for at least a year and to be prepared for a scar. Once the last scabs had fallen away, a friend recommended we try the Essentially Lili Renew Balm . We rubbed it on her scar every day for 2 months and she already has no marks left to show. The doctor was very impressed and we are so thankful that she will have no issues with a scar at all. Thank you for all your help, guidance and support Lili.

I had the pleasure of meeting this little girl in person this week and was so happy to see that there’s not a single mark or scar on her body for the burns.

There are so many stories which just make me so happy to read and know that the Essentially Lili products have contributed to bringing happiness to that situation. If you are one of those people, please share your reviews on the Facebook Page and the Webpage Others read these stories and testimonials, which help them choose their products without my help!!

Where the conditions are more serious and gut related, don’t forget to keep an eye on your diet / food intake to ensure that you’re not aggravating the skin. On the last blog, I talked about what kind of ingredients to look out for if you have certain conditions. Be sure to check out that list or message me for more information.

In Summary, if you want to make a change to your diet, start my reducing the saturated fats, sugars, carbs and processed foods. Eat more greens and salads as they are lighter to digest.

On the newsletter, I wrote about Carrot Seed Essential Oil.
To make your own gentle scrub for your face, place these ingredients into a jar and scoop when needed.
• Add Honey which is great for healing the skin as it allows the skin to maintain moisture and keep it soft.
Coconut Oil which is antifungal and also helps moisturise the skin.
• Add the grounded Coffee to the scrub.It has antioxidants which help your skin, but also give the texture for gently scrubbing off skin cells that no longer need to be there!
• Add a few drops of Carrot Seed Oil to the mix, which is fabulous for all skin types, as well as boosting skin that has been sun-damaged.
Alternative ingredients – You can use Oatmeal, Olive Oil, Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oil.

If you are looking to fast forward your journey to recovery, you can book your Consult Therapist session.

I will help you get the results you want as I have already been on that hard journey. It takes courage to persist with getting the results you want. It definitely has high and low moments but I will empathise, sympathise and encourage you along your path.
