Men’s Personal Grooming

Men’s Personal Grooming,
a trend for keeping beards &
hydrating faces has always been popular.

QR BLOGJUN18a

Often we assume that only women enjoy looking after & pampering themselves.
Though lately, the trend for Men’s personal grooming, whether it’s for their beards and faces is a lot more popular. When I was young, I used to watch my Dad foam his face with the brush and then shave his face, before slapping on Tabac Cologne. My Dad maintained his curly hair short, kept his fingernails filed, trimmed and clean. It was part of his military training as a young man in Italy. For me, this is what men were supposed to do.

Today, all the additional aspects of Men’s personal grooming is cool and trendy, and shows that a man loves to take care of himself beyond just shaving. Even TV shows like ‘Suits’ shows the character Louis Litt in a Mud Bath as part of his relaxation therapy!!Women love the appearance of a man who is well groomed from hair to feet. Made more popular when the man is fit, healthy and has a matching six-pack like Magic Mike’s team.

When I began making the skincare products, my husband thought mine was a bit too ‘girly’ for him. Going through my list of Essential Oils and their amazing benefits, I developed the Hydrating Face Balm with its masculine scent which reminded both of us of the aftershave called ‘Aramis’. Sandalwood (Amyris Balsamifera) was included in this men’s over 30’s balm, not only for this wonderful aroma, but because of what it does to the mind and skin. When applied to the face in the form of the Balm & Serum, it can encourages the anti-aging process, promoting new skin cells and the rejuvenation process to continue. The Serum and Men’s Face Balm All-Natural products are offered as a Bundle on our webpage – Mens’ Aftershave Care. The Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm which also contains Sandalwood, assists those men whose skin is irritated with Acne / Rosacea.

As mentioned in the Newsletter, there are some amazing benefits with using Sandalwood , which includes:
• having a calming effect on our well-being and mental health. It can provide a sense of clarity from its therapeutic benefits;
• It can help boost our memory, particularly if you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out;
• Added to massage oil, Sandalwood can increase your libido and energy levels, working as a natural aphrodisiac;
• It can work as an Astringent, motivating your skin tissues to have minor contractions, which help soothe, calm and tighten the skin;
• The antioxidants found in Sandalwood can assist with reducing damage caused by free radicals which can cause the early aging process. For this reason, Sandalwood was included to the Mens Range.

Additional to the Men’s Personal Grooming products for Body & Feet are the Peppermint Feet & Mint Body Butter. Made using Peppermint Essential Oil with its cooling effect, they smell so divine you may be tempted to want to eat it.Not only does the balm hydrate and maintaining the skin, but it also keeps Athlete’s foot, fungal infections and odours at bay.The Mint Body butter has assisted with reduction of scarring whilst hydrating the skin, especially after being out in the sunshine.

If your hair thinning out concerns you, there are a few options you could do.
• First, find a natural shampoo and conditioner that contains Biotin, otherwise known as Vitamin B7. This water-soluble vitamin is part of the vitamin B complex, which assists the strengthening process for your hair, nails and skin.It can also be taken internally in a B-complex supplement.
• Second, Evening Primrose Oil which is rich in essential Omega-6 Fatty acids GLA can also be effective with fighting against hair loss.This can either be consumed in capsule form or the Vegetable oil can be massaged directly to the scalp with essential oils.For more information about Evening Primrose Oil for hair growth, see: Favourite Vegetable Oils in our Blog Library;
Black Seed Oil has been used by a close friend of mine to encourage hair growth. It can naturally boost the hair and scalp’s health is different ways.It contains nigellone and has antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it can stop dandruff, dryness as well as improve the hair’s overall health simultaneously.
Rosemary essential oils helps to stimulate hair growth. When applied on the scalp diluted in a Vegetable oil like Evening Primrose & Black Seed Oil, rosemary essential oil helps stimulate hair growth, prevent baldness, slows down the greying process, as well as treating dandruff and dry scalp.

Your Men’s Personal grooming should include night time cleansing using Cypress Cleansing Balm to help boost your skin’s appearance. In a short space of time, your skin will feel lifted and refreshed. To soften the delicate skin around your eyes, you can use an all-natural balm Cool Eyes with Cucumber Oil, which is hydrating and soothing. And on a weekly basis, enjoy a gentle exfoliant and clay mask.Treat your skin whilst chillaxing on the weekend, to help draw out any impurities and remove dead skin cells.Ensure you get the right Coloured Clays for your skin type.

Personal fitness and training, with relaxation, yoga and massage is a fabulous way of taking care of your mind, body and spirit.Perhaps look into Osteopath realignment oran amazing Thai Massage.

In Summary, be the man that isn’t embarrassed to go the extra mile to look your best. Your body, your hair, your skin will all thank you. You will be able to enjoy a youthful appearance well into your mid-life years.Other helpful tips for keeping that gorgeous masculine glow – ensure you don’t use super-hot water on your face, cleanse only at night time, drink plenty of water and keep your face protected from the sun.

Changing Seasons

Roses of Changing Seasons

Changing Seasons

A versatile blend aiding symptoms of Menopause
include Sugar cravings, losing hair, hot sweaty flushes,
headaches, fatigue, gaining weight & irritability.

QR BLOGAPR17

How many of you watched the Movie ‘Sex In the City’ when Samantha was showing us this phase of a woman’s life?We may have laughed as she portrayed what it’s like in the film. But the reality for many women is often quite stressful. Symptoms of Menopause include cravings for sugary foods, losing hair, hot flushes, sweats, headaches, fatigue, gaining weight, irritability, and more.

It is a difficult subject to talk about especially when you have not gone through the stages of Menopause yourself. I am sure that my body is changing as I notice my craving for certain foods increases during differing times of the month. But other than that, hot sweats and flushes have been so far kept at bay.

To find out more, I recently joined a Menopause Support Group in the UK, and I have to say, they have been the most amazing group of women. The group’s leader is always providing information, studies, tips on how to deal with the symptoms and changes that women go through. She is also studying in order to help those that are in the group.

When I started making Essentially Lili products, my dear friend asked for help regarding hot sweats and flushes. The good old symptoms of Menopause that only those enduring them would fully understand what it is like. You can imagine the challenge of making something to help with the symptoms, despite not having them myself. We agreed on the name Changing Seasons for the product, as it marked the next phase of a woman’s amazing journey in life. I took some time out, researching what could be a decent blend to help combat her symptoms.

I sent a sample of the blend abroad and waited for feedback like I had been doing with all my other first batches. It’s only with the feedback I can actually amend and improve the blends. But I found it strange that I hadn’t heard anything for some time.

Eventually I sent her a note – ‘Are you ok? Can you please let me know what happened with the Changing Seasons blend?’ Quote from our Testimonials Page:

27-Sep-15

Dear Lili. The Changing Seasons for menopause is fab. Haven’t had a flush or sweat thing all day. First time in many months. And the funny thing is I’ve been having a cough for almost 2 years. With doctor’s check, blood samples, x-Rays, scans. They can’t find the reason why. Ya’ know what? I haven’t had one single cough since I inhaled the Changing Seasons Menopause oil.I’m just thrilled with the fantastic start.I usually inhale directly from the sample or the first couple of days from a piece of paper towel. In the evening it’s best for me. I haven’t had any flushes for a week and one day – you are amazing!! We’re gonna keep using it – be sure of that Thank you so much! I.M – Denmark

26-Feb-16 … A few months later, she wrote:
I’m still very happy with Changing Seasons and don’t have flushes. Still use your inhaler every second or third day – amazing… You’ve given me my life back with the serum! I.M – Denmark

Can you imagine my happiness reading this feedback?I was just thrilled to bits for her and for the results of the blend!

The Serum is blended with Jojoba with a combination of Essential oils comprising of Rosemary, Basil, Peppermint and Geranium amongst other Oils. The Jojoba makes the serum safe for application directly onto the skin or for adding it to the bath for the ultimate chillaxing, inhalation experience. The Serum can be applied to feet at night time for penetration to the Acupressure points, onto the tip of the nose for inhalation whilst sleeping or to the wrists whilst out and about.

Changing Seasons is also available as an inhaler, so that you can carry it in your bag for whenever you need to take a breath to fight off the fatigue and headaches.

A few of the Essential Oils contained in the Changing Seasons includes: The Basil (Ocimum Basilicum) helps lack of concentration, fatigue, lethargy. Rosemary (Rosemarinus Officinalis) stimulates the body and boosts the production of red blood cells and blood flow. It helps boost memory, improves the mood, reduces inflammation & relieves pain. Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) helps with hot flushes, sweating and fatigue. The other Essential Oils also work their magic whilst being inhaled.

The other key part for women in this phase of life is Exercise and Diet. However, it does not mean you have to become a Gym Junkie or a Body Builder!

It just means to be active -some of the better exercises to do during Menopause are Strength Training & Cardio, Yoga, Meditation, Dancing, and even the stair master. Nothing too strenuous especially if you are not used to being this active.

Regarding our food, we have to ensure that we get plenty of the right kinds.Balanced diets are key – though finding alternatives to deal with allergies, intolerances and other preferences is often difficult.

The vitamin needed to help prevent osteoporosis is Vitamin D. This vitamin also helps the immune system, the nerves, and muscles. Insufficient vitamin D can cause osteoporosis or rickets which can affect children and lead to other deformities. This vitamin is fat-soluble and helps the body to absorb calcium, which is necessary for bones to grow and remain strong. Bone production and the tissues could be affected if the body does not receive enough calcium, or if the body has problems absorbing it in the diet.

Further studies are suggesting that Vitamin K2 is another key ingredient in maintaining bone health, which may be just as important in assisting the body and preventing bone fractures as we get older. Women in post-menopausal stages are at greater risk of osteoporosis, so a diet that is rich in vitamins with safe sun exposure is a good mix for prevention.

Vitamin D can be sourced in dairy products, cheese, cream, butter, fortified milk, breakfast cereals, margarine, and soy milk as well as in a supplement. However, the best source of Vitamin D is with safe exposure to a touch of sunshine – with the right kinda sunscreen, especially for those Down Under!

Dry Skin During Winter

Renew Balm Dry Skin During Winter

Our 5 year old played in the snow
without gloves during Swiss winter.
His dried out hands hurt so much
he couldn’t bend his knuckles.

QR BLOGFEB17

Dry Skin and the Winter months wherever you are, the weather can be cruel to especially if you are prone to your skin drying out quickly, cracking and becoming irritated. Eczema loves to play havoc during the cold season which is not pleasant if you suffer badly.

Last year, during the cold Swiss winter, our 5-year-old son enjoyed playing in the snow at kindergarten without his gloves.
After a few days, his hands and knuckles were red and sore from drying out.He found it hard to dress and play with his Lego as bending his hands hurt a lot.He was also in a habit of using lots of soap when washing his hands and not rinsing properly, which was also drying the skin.

For him, we started monitoring him whilst he washed his hands to make sure there was no residual soap. as well as drying the water off. At bedtime, we applied Renew Balm to his hands, then put a pair of socks on his hands to keep the product contained, allowing it to penetrate into his dry skin whilst he slept. We only had to carry on with this routine for a week, which gave his dry skin a chance to repair.

Here are a few other suggestions for taking care of your Dry Skin During Winter Months.

1. Hydration
Make sure you keep your body hydrated and replenished with plenty of water. This helps your body to function, flush out toxins and keeps your skin looking fabulous. The recommended daily intake of fluids for children aged 5-8 years of age, 5 glasses (1 litre); from 9-12 years of age, 7 glasses (1.5 liters); from 13+ to Adults, 8-10 glasses (2 litres).

2. Avoid Hot Water
Make sure you only wash your face and neck with lukewarm or tepid water. This includes your baths, showers, shaving, cleansing and exfoliating. When your skin is sensitive and prone to drying out, you want to make sure that the temperature is not going to cause more damage and break the tiny veins in your face.Blotches are likely to happen when super hot water is applied to your face.If you really want to have a steamy hot shower, ensure the water is on your back or chest, but not directly on your face.

3. Be Gentle with Your Skin – all the time!
Try not to use harsh ingredients on your face. Avoid techniques that require you to pull or stretch your skin.Use gentle circular upward motions, and pamper your skin by tapping and stimulating the blood flow to your face. This will help you feel wonderful as you get ready to start your day or prepare for a restful night.

4. Moisturise Your Face
It’s important to ensure you keep your face moisturised for your day out in the cold weather. Use a good one that keeps your skin feeling soft and nourished, without the need to keep reapplying throughout your day. Often products are water-based and fluid, which tend to be drawn from the skin quicker than butter and oil-based products.
We make a range of moisturisers for various ages which help make the skin feel soft and nourished.
Natural Baby Moisturising Oil For Babies & Children,
Youth Face Balm for Under 30s,
Hydrating Face Balm for men Over 30s,
Nourishing Face Balm for women Over 30s and
Diamond Era Balm for women Over 50s.
We also make the Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm if your skin needs more tender loving care due to irritation or damage, and Evanesce Balm for those that have Acne which needs treatment.

5. Don’t Forget Your Hands, Feet & Body
Your body also needs to stay nourished in order to seal the moisture in your skin. The butter-based products literally melt onto your skin, helping it to stay soft and nourished. Our Geranium Hands & Body is lush and great for applying all over the body and suits expecting and nursing mums. For those that love Peppermint, Mint Body Butter is so delish you will be tempted to eat it … please don’t though! Peppermint Feet is a favourite for those that have cracked heels. It also helps with fungal infections and smelly feet.Though Peppermint shouldn’t be used if you’re expecting and nursing, so try Tango Twinkle Toes instead!Made with Tangerine, my daughter and I named it imagining expectant & nursing mums wanting to dance with their little ones whilst they were being taken care of!

Gallery: Before and After with Eczema, Renew Balm, Before & After using Pink Clays.

6. Rug Up & Stay Warm With Breathable Fibers
Prevention is always best, so make sure you keep your gloves on when out in the cold weather. Wearing Cottons also helps your skin breathe and prevents irritation.Avoid wearing synthetics, polyesters, and other fabrics which can cause your skin to sweat and itch. Pyjamas feel nicer when they are cotton too, particularly if you have skin prone to getting irritated whilst you sleep.

7. Have A Cleansing Routine at Night Time.
Did you know you are only meant to cleanse at night time? The reason for this is because our skin is subjected to pollution, dust and smog from traffic and the environment we live in. It builds upon our skin and if we don’t cleanse it out, the muck can begin to clog our pores.Make sure you are gentle when cleansing and to include your neck and shoulders if they are also exposed to the environment. Remove your makeup with either Almond or Coconut Oil.If you don’t like using oils, try removing makeup with a little Aloe Vera instead. Then you can use our Cypress Cleansing Balm which is made with Beeswax, Butters and Essential Oils.It feels wonderful as it penetrates the skin’s reserves – it’s just like having an all-natural Botox fill!

8. Monitor the Temperature in the Home
During the winter months, the temperature at home is usually really warm and toasty. This often high temperature dries out the moisture in the air and affects us with dry skin the most.In the mornings, you should start by opening your windows and changing the air in the home, refreshing any stuffiness. This is particularly important if you have sensitivity to dust or dust mites that thrive in warm climates. In the evenings, you can place bowls of water in your rooms to prevent your skin from dehydrating. You will be pleasantly surprised how much water remains in the bowl the following morning. You can also turn on your humidifiers to replace any moisture which is lost from having the heating on.Steamers are also great, especially if you are able to add Essential Oils to freshen and help clear any signs of Congestion and Sinuses.
We make Concentrated Serums which mums have been using in the bath to help their little ones with congestion and coughs. The carrier oil makes the products safe to use in the bath, which are Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Breathe Easier Concentrate .They can also be applied to the chest, feet, and tips of the nose for easy breathing. For infants, it can be used in a diffuser 30 minutes before being put to bed and on nearby linen. From 1 year of age up, you can apply to their pyjamas and feet. The direction is with the Product information.

9. Patience …
Patience is key especially if your skin dries out very quickly during the winter months. You have to keep applying, keep drinking fluids, keep yourself rugged up, stay moisturised and monitored your clothing and temperature all the time to prevent your skin from cracking. It’s often frustrating especially if your skin feels like sandpaper and looks like it’s been hacked by a knife. With time, and persistence, it will get better for sure. Just be patient!

10. Lastly… start all over again from Step No 1
And we go back to the top .. Hydration, Avoid Hot Water, Be Gentle With Your Skin – All the Time, Moisturise Your Face, Don’t Forget Your Hands, Feet & Body, Rug Up & Stay Warm with Breathable Fibers, Have a Cleansing Routine at Night Time, Monitor the Temperature in the Home and have Patience!

These are the steps I found worked best for me and when I don’t do these, my skin suffers for it.

And to treat yourself, if you love mucking around with Masks & Facials, you might enjoy doing this too:
1 teaspoon of Pink Clay mixed with 2 teaspoons of Aloe Vera, mixed onto your palm.
Apply to your face and allow to set.
When it dries, apply some warm water to soften before removing with either tissues or cotton wool.

The pink clay has a unique blend of Kaolinite, Iron, Montmorillonite, Illite, and Calcite. It helps to detoxify your skin, removing any dead cells and allows the creation of new ones whilst leaving you feeling refreshed.

Evolution & Experiments

Evolution & Experiments

From Jar sizes, Labels &
Logo Designs/Development, we begin the next phase of re-branding.

QR BLOGSEP16a

Evolution means development, progression, change and transformation.  They are a great way to describe the evolution of Essentially Lili.

When we started, everything was a process of making quick decisions. Our Jump in with Both Feet approach concerned the labels, our colour codes, information for the customer, designing the logo and building the brand.

There will always be someone who does not understand what we like; nor will they comprehend what’s within our heart and drives us forwards.Colour schemes, for example, is a personal preference. We have had humorous and frustrating times making labels from Essentially Lili’s inception.

We tried all sorts of templates, fonts and had some printer malfunctions too. The worst was the classic ‘We have no ink left in the cartridges after printing a few sheets’!This is when we gave all Essentially Lili products their own colour code.

The labels process is still evolving and improving. We hope to change the design to incorporate all the things we loved about the Evolution process. They will be printed professionally so that we can up-grade Our Brand to the next level.

One thing we didn’t want to do was hastily run to the finish line.We felt so much was important to learn and know beforehand, as we aimed for a little perfection and ultimate customer satisfaction.

Regarding the Evolution of Products, there is always space for improvement after making the batch.  When we make the batch, we check to see how the product sets, then how the balm or serum feels on the skin and combine this with the Customer’s feedback.

Sometimes, the products made don’t even make it passed the blending phase or the setting stages when the feedback is ready!

One time, we were making the Mint Body Butter in a whipped cream formation.  The smell of Peppermint was so delish that we had to keep reminding ourselves it was not for internal consumption!  The door-bell rang when our child arrived home from school. We leaned the whisk to the side of the mixing bowl as we buzzed the door open when we heard the massive CRASH!

The bowl of liquid balm mixed with peppermint fell and was all over the stove, leaving a fraction of the product for us to save!   Urgh, the horror, the clean-up, the butter and oil that needed to be collected, and that delightful smell which we were unable to put on our bodies.  Lesson learned … take the whisk out or don’t answer the door!!

Another time, we were experimenting with making an oil and water-based lotion for the first time. We put the blend into a container to set it in the fridge. A few days later, our son decided he wanted something from the fridge and climbed in reaching for the top shelf where the container was located.  It flew right over the top of him and crashed onto the floor!!!

The water content went one way whilst the oil base went the other!  What a crazy sticky watery mess… though he did provide the feedback about the product which hadn’t worked out!

Sometimes, the product concoction is great for those that use it, whilst the chronic suffers finds the blend not strong enough.Other times, the mix of Essential oils is so spot on that the intended results occur after a few weeks of usage and helps the customer gain their ‘life back’.  Refer to Testimonials.

Our main focus is being able to help people not suffer from aches and discomfort. We have to be open to receiving both positive and negative feedback. This helps us to improve, change, transform, develop, and ultimately Evolve Essentially Lili’s products for Customer satisfaction.

BLOG PARTICIPATION:

We would love to hear from you.Tell us in the comments below about your Essentially Lili Product(s) that you have used and what you love the most about them?

And for those that are brave, we would love to hear about when you tried to do something for the first time, but it had an EPIC fail as we did in our blending experiments!!   It’s not for criticising anyone, but to look back and laugh about what happened instead! We would love to give some products away to those that participate in this!!You have to let us know what you like!
