Goodbye summer and hello weather changes in the Northern Hemisphere. Whilst my family and friends are gearing up for their Spring and Summer festivities in Australia, the end of their school years and a Christmas BBQs at the beach, we’re preparing ourselves for a cold one!Snow has already started to fall on the nearby peaks of Zurich Switzerland.

The heaters in our homes and shopping centres tend to do us more harm than good.Constantly taking off our warm winter woollies in order to browse the overheated shop, before putting everything back before stepping into the chilly weather. I remember doing this when visiting my cousin in London last year … it was so frustrating taking your jackets, scarves, gloves off whilst shopping on Kensington High Street, only to have carry it whilst browsing, and put it back on before leaving the store!Do you find this annoying too?

My advice to those who feel their skin drying out during the winter periods:
Stay hydrated by drinking water or herbal teas. The recommended daily intake of water is based on specific age groups:Children from 5-8 years of age should have 5 glasses or 1 litre, 9-12 years of age should have 7 glasses or 1.5 litres, and from 13+/Adults, should drink 8-10 glasses or 2 litres of water.This will help flush out toxins and keep your skin looking fabulously fresh ;
Be Gentle with your skin all the time, irrespective of what you’re doing – cleansing, shaving, moisturising. Avoid using really hot water against your hands or body as it can also dry you out, and
could make sensitive skin blotchy. It’s better to use tepid or lukewarm water, which will prevent breaking the small veins on your face ;
Wear breathable fibres like 100% cotton when staying warm.This will prevent unnecessary irritation, sweating, sticking or itching to your skin and body, which normally happens with synthetics, polyester and other non-natural garments.
Keep a bowl of water in your room at night time to allow that to be evaporated instead of the moisture contained in your skin.Ensure that your heating is also turned down whilst sleeping at night;
Leave the diffuser on with your either blend of Breathe Easy Concentrate or Blissful Minds ;
Apply your choice of Hand Creams and if necessary, wear your cotton gloves to keep them from dehydrating whilst you sleep.

Product selections:
• For Hands, choose from Geranium Hands & Body, Rosey Hemp Hands or for hands that are cracked, use Renew Balm.;
• For Children, apply Natural Baby Moisturising Oil which is gentle enough from their faces to their feet.
• For the Concentrates, choose from Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Adults Breathe Easy Concentrate or Blissful Minds.

These Concentrated Serums are made in a Carrier Oil, making them safe to add to the bath or diffuser. They help with Congestion, coughs and headaches.
• Ensure your body and feet are also moisturised after showering to keep the rest of your skin feeling soft.
• Other products to keep your skin hydrated can be found in the Body Eyes Feet Hands & Lips category of the webpage.There is also the Mums Pamper Pack with Tango Twinkle Toes & Geranium Hands & Body.

These Winter tips will help keep your skin feeling wonderful soft all winter long.As stated in the Newsletter, I’m discounting the Hands Products this month so that you can get your Pot of Magic and take care of your hands during winter. Your hands need Tender Loving Care.

‘Hands & Body Butters keeping our hands soft & hydrated’

The Essential Oils contained in our all-natural Hands products include Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis Organic), Cypress (Cupressus Sempervirens), whilst the Rosey Hemp Hands contains Rose (Rosa Centifolia) Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini).
The Benefits of these concentrated essential oils include:

Geranium is non-irritating, non-toxic which is wound-healing with its antiseptic properties.It helps improve circulation whilst assisting and improving the health of your skin;
Sweet Orange is ideal for dry or problem skin types, as it’s a wonderful skin tonic that helps to decongest and removes built up toxins on the skin. Being rich in antioxidants, this promotes natural regeneration of cells, minimising the signs of ageing;
Cypress has antiseptic properties which helps to improve tone and assists in treating varicose veins, spider veins and broken capillaries;
Rose contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds which make this a fabulous ingredient especially for dry or ageing skin. It helps refine skin texture and tone whilst managing irritating skin conditions like Dermatitis and Psoriasis;
Palmarosa has skin healing and hydrating properties, which improve the condition of dehydrated skin.

These all-natural ingredients have been carefully selected when creating the products for your skin, as their benefits are so amazing, allowing for an accelerated process for regenerating and hydrating the cells.

What do I see with Touching Hands?

In the newsletter, I added a picture of a group of hands and felt there was such a strong bond and connection with those touching each other, that it was more than just about applying a product to make it feel soft and wonderful.Lately, this has resonated so strongly with me. Perhaps this is because I live so far away from those that I consider is important to me and my family.

What I see when I look at that picture:Love, Friendship, Assistance, Diversity, Inclusion, Help, Connections, Healing, Belief, Encouragement, Compassion, Faith, Hope, Family, Strength, Teamwork, Ability, Willingness, Listening, Guidance, Reassurance, Perseverance, Togetherness, Participation, Unity, Appreciation, Edification, Building, Communication, Trust, Security, Gratitude, Self-lessness, Humility, Sensations, Charitable, Confidence, Safety & Bonds. This list is by no means finished, but it’s huge when looking at only ONE picture.

So what’s the fascination with physical touch, the first sensation, and language we learn.For a mother and her baby, it strengthens the attachment, encouraging security and safety.Depending on the kind of touch that is given, it can create either positive or negative emotions.As our kids get older, touch as a sign of affection is necessary to help reassure and build up their confidence.When we share our lives with another, touch becomes an important aspect of communicating, whether it’s transmitting the feeling of comfort, or more intense sensations which can cause the heart to race from excitement. We want to make sure we’re using touch as a powerful form of communication to keep us grounded and bonded together.

However, in life lately, I have noticed that there is only a handful who are willing to reach out, grab and hang onto your hands, especially when life or situations become tough and stressful.The journey we strive on is often challenging, it can be lonely and isolating.We sometimes forget about those that helped us when we almost lost everything, or had nothing and struggled to get back up onto our feet, making it easier to reach a higher potential.I look back at some of the hardships we faced and remember with fondness those who were there, despite distance and international time zones.

To those who have been an element of strength and compassion for my family and me, we are humbled with gratitude and appreciate your words of encouragement.You helped us believe in a bigger picture that we were unable to see during that crisis, whether it was from exhaustion or fear of the unknown.

What I have also noticed and learned is how being proud, self-centred, lacking gratitude or appearing better than others just encourages narcissist behaviours which will cause rifts and ultimately break off those wonderful and beautiful relationships.The world is big enough for many characteristics, and I’d rather keep my eyes focused on the greater good in others, hoping that they too can assist those around them by lifting, building, strengthening bonds and making the life we live a better one.

Always try to be the best version of yourself and let the world see Your Own Kind of Beautiful.

getting back on track.

Thanks for my gorgeous flowers &
visiting me in hospital Kaori x

Following on from the last blog about ‘Taking Time out’. Whilst recently being in Hospital recovering from the Hernia Operation, I had plenty of time to think, rest, and study again. I don’t really have a high pain threshold which made my recovery seem to take longer than planned.

I remember waking up and feeling groggy and hearing numbers being called out in German. They were calling out my low blood pressure numbers, but I was too late to tell the staff it was normal for me!! They had already given me a shot of morphine!! The other painkillers were being fed by drip – gosh for someone who rarely takes even Ibuprofen for the occasional headache, this was mega.

Unable to move around, or change my positions freely, I felt quite restricted despite being in good spirits. You don’t even realise how much you need your stomach or core muscles until you are unable to use them. Coughing, laughing, and sneezing was so difficult to do whilst I was bandaged and recovering. I’m glad to say that 2 weeks post-operation, I seem to be back to normal, except I am not able to lift heavy items for a few more weeks. My kids are so happy as they look for any excuses not to help around anymore!! That’s so Not cool.

With the excuse that I couldn’t do much, I took the time complete my Reflexology case studies and submit my final exam. It was one of those courses that needed a lot of motivation to study, write, and understand. I’m glad that I persevered and completed it.I’m happy to say that I received my Reflexology Diploma with Distinction to add to the other 5 completed courses.

Choosing my Diplomas in Aromatherapy, Clinical Nutrition, Stress Management, Holistic Skincare Products, and Reflexology were so I could assist with a holistic approach to well-being when trying to help my customers. The one currently being studied is Holistic Pain Management. There is so much to grasp – not only how the Mind, Body and Spirit work together, but how there are so many alternative health solutions too. It’s ironic that whilst I was in so much pain and discomfort, I had to commence studying this subject.I look forward to helping my customers with alternative solutions instead of seeking drugs as the only option.

In my youth when I was unwell, I had the pleasure of trying all sorts of alternative options. I tried the Herbalist, Chinese Medicine person with the brutal massage techniques and suction cups, the Reflexology, the Acupuncturist as well as the Dermatologist. I believe all of these experiences helped me comprehend what they do and how they can assist in bringing about well-being.Sometimes we should try another avenue to see if it works for us.These other options helped me so much in my quest to find my own well-being, irrespective of whether or not they worked for me.It’s only when you have boiled and drank a cup full of ‘secret herbs and barks’ from the Chinese Medicine person that you will ever understand the benefits and the hideous tastes at the same time!

My tummy was so bloated from the medication that I stopped taking them altogether.Imagine what happens to your intestinal tract if you’re taking medications all the time? My elderly Italian neighbour gave me some dry figs and other fruits to help me.

What also helped was increasing my water and herbal tea intake. I took Aloe Vera cleanser as well as make a Himalayan Sea Salt Water wash to drink. I tried not to use medicated options for helping my tummy as I wanted my Intestinal tract to flush out any build-up or irritations caused by the medications as quickly as possible. This also helps keep your skin healthy and clear.

Gallery:  Body & Feet Products, Recovering, Time Out London, Flowers.

Then I taught my husband how to make an Italian Minestrone so that I could eat well without having to feel so ill. The recipe is below:

MINESTRONE: Cut all sorts of veggies into chunks including Onion, carrots, cabbage, celery, mushrooms, spinach, long green beans cut smaller, potatoes for thickening the soup. You can also add peas and silver beat (or Swiss Chard). Salt, pepper, Italian Herbs, veggie stock and cover them with water.Then add a can of chopped up tomatoes, season to taste again.   Add a little sugar to remove the acidity of the tomatoes. Cook until soft, squash the potatoes down to thicken and eat!

For assisting the healing of my wounds, I mentioned in the last blog the benefits of Grapeseed Oil (Vitis vinifera) which comes from the seeds of grapes, a by-product of making wine.It contains Omega-3 fatty acids with the highest levels of Omega-6 Fatty Acids, compared to other Vegetable Oils. I made sure I had my Essentially Lili Products with me in hospital and at home.

The one I have been applying to my wounds is Mint Body Butter whilst others have been using the to prevent any scarring post-operation. I look forward to hearing the progress updates from the other operation buddies.

This month in Zurich, I have had the privilege of connecting with amazing groups of Women. Some of these Mums are trying their hand at being Entrepreneurs, working from home around their kids. Others are juggling between part time jobs and their business. I love supporting these start-up businesses, investing in them, promoting their pages, as I believe in sharing the love with others. It is much better to encourage and support a small business. A shout out to You – SunStyleFiles for your Blog after using Essentially Lili Products; Trees & Sun for your Handmade work; Spiritedchild for your Beeswax Wraps; Jo’s English Playgroup for promoting the products and more.

With another Awesome Mum’s Group, we have talked about what we are passionate about and what we need to get to the next level, offering what we are good at for helping the others reach their own business goals. It’s a lovely change from those types of women who have nothing better to do than to pull down, gossip about, isolate or bully those that don’t fit their mold. To those I say, ‘At least have the courage to step outside of your own comfort zone before throwing criticism at someone who has the guts to try!’

I am always pleasantly surprised when someone reaches out to help another. Introducing you to someone who is in a higher position, who is well-connected, might be an influencer, a shop-owner or even a CEO. I love saying, ‘You never know where the doors for your opportunities are, so keep knocking until the right ones open.’To those of you here who have been encouraging networkers, connecters and have assisted the opportunities to come, I send you many thanks for being the kind of person you are.This place needs more people like You!

Getting three diverse women together for the Beauty Day Event was one that seemed relatively easy enough. The owner of Lotus Natural Spa offered her premises in Wadenswil and asked Fingers & Toes and myself at Essentially Lili to join forces. How hard could it be, right?

A little bit of joint advertising, asking customers to come along for the Event to be pampered on a lovely Saturday afternoon, the bookings began to come through. In no time, the appointment slots were filled!The fun task of getting prepared for the event with products, Prosecco & nibbles and offers.

The Day of the Event, we set up quickly at Lotus Natural Spa. We gave each other space to work, to meet & greet customers, to chat privately, to have their pampering sessions down. It was lovely seeing women arrive, introduce themselves and feel confident enough to come and speak about their skincare concerns. There’s nothing nicer than wearing the colour red as a sign of Confidence & Well-Being, when I once loathed it on my irritated skin.

Sometimes all we need is to speak with someone who has already been on that hard journey; who has endured & persisted; has had high and low moments; who can empathise, sympathise and encourage you along your path. That is why I offer the Consultation sessions: to help speed along this process of what’s been tried, tested and what works if you’re willing to persevere.

New Beginnings & Overcoming Stress

New Beginnings &
Overcoming Stress

Can be both exciting & irritating,

Helps resolution!

New beginnings can be quite overwhelming especially if you are concerned about what adventure is about to commence. Whether it is the expansion of your family with the addition of a little one, moving house to a new town or country, starting a new school, or commencing a new job.  There is a mix of emotions and feelings, from excitement to nervousness, all which can play havoc in our minds and lives.

When we bring home our newborn babies and try to fit very quickly into the role of ‘super mum/dad/parent’, we soon realise that there is only so much we can do around the needs of our infants.  Sleep deprivation makes us parents exhausted and sometimes cranky or grumpy.It’s not that we mean to be unpleasant – it’s just that we are not coping well with trying to make a perfect environment.

One of the first things to give way during times of stress is usually our sleep.  Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night having a panic or anxiety attack?  These attacks consume your energy as they keep your adrenalin pumping when you should be resting instead.

Whilst living in Zurich, we moved apartments from a lovely international community to another location.  It meant our child changed school and was having to start all over with trying to fit in again. She was the target of bullies, getting picked on by kids who were taller than me.We notice the personality change, the not wanting to go to school, fussing over what to wear, and pretending to feel ill, all so that she wouldn’t have to go to school.  Has that happened to you and your child? If so, more than likely there is something else going on at the school, and it’s worth being present to see for yourself, which is what I did.

It was during this period of time I was making my blends for Congestion with the Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Breathe Easier Concentrate, as well as the Blissful Minds for headaches which comes in Concentrated form as well as Inhaler.

I decided to make my child her own blend of Pick Me Up to help relax and clear her head when overcome with Anxiety.  She kept her inhaler in her pencil case so that she always had it with her. Containing Cedarwood, Frankincense and Lavender these Essential Oils help relieve her mind when inhaled through the deep breathing technique.  For Adults, the ingredients included Vetiver which is stronger for calming and relaxing our nerves when they get stressed.

This year for us has been one with many challenges. We faced a whole lot of uncertainty with our young family and future plans.We all tried to keep a level of normality at home for the sake of our kids.But we had moments of epic failure as the stress levels became too much for all of us to bare at times.  For us we had the stress of finding a new place to live in a short space of time, trying to keep the kids motivated at school whilst dealing with the main factors for our anxiety.

When we found the place to live, we packed and moved as quickly as possible, whilst continuing to keep in touch with customers and their needs.I sometimes think how did we manage with such little support and help?Besides adrenalin and our parental instincts to protect our loved ones, we keep pushing on til it was all done.

Friendships can also become estranged during stressful times.  More so if there is little understanding between friends about what is really going on in the life of the other person.I remember a wise person saying, ‘Unless you walk in the shoes of the person who is going through their crisis, you should never judge them.’The reality is true, for it is only when you find out what their journey is about, will you understand the crisis they are enduring and the stress they are trying to overcome.

During our periods of stress and anxiety, I was unable to focus on anything other than making products for my customers.Studies stopped for a period of time until I began working again in July. It was during my studies on Stress Management that I wished I had read the course material to help me deal with our periods of anxiety.  Whilst reading my materials, I performed the breathing, visualising and calming techniques which relaxed me so much I almost fell asleep.This form of relaxing the body completely is extremely powerful and it gave me the energy to complete the next parts of my Diploma courses.

I remember going to dinner with some mum friends of mine who just kept asking ‘What are you going to do?’ And all I could say was ‘I don’t know, yet’.   Feels like a lifetime ago but one thing I can say is that we eventually got through that period of time, unscathed.

Stress is always part of our lives, despite trying our best to be the positive energy for our family and others around us. Sometimes we have to take ‘stock’ of what’s beyond our control, what is really worth losing sleep over and what isn’t. But most of all, is having that person or group of friends who keep you grounded, focused, encouraged and make you feel supported when things are not going as planned.Often that is what we need most – an encouraging word and a hug from a friend or loved one.

I have been fortunate these past few months to have those few who just say I wasn’t ok and reached out to me.For them, I’m really grateful and hope that I am always there for them in return.
